SAT | Heart of the Magic City: A Tour of Old Brickell and the Civic Core

This tour will take place TWICE on Saturday, June 1.
 

Join us for an urban exploration of Miami’s heart. Miami’s incredible building stock, stretching from the 1920’s building boom through to the present day is on full display with special attention paid to Postmodern works of Arquitectonica, Philip Johnson, Claes Oldenburg, Edward Durell Stone, and others. Two neighborhoods will be explored, Brickell and Downtown. It is here that Miami’s eclectic core is most at risk. Downtown is undergoing significant renovations, demolitions, and all out erasure of vulnerable historic buildings to be completed in the next few years. In addition, Miami Public Library will be providing a private viewing of their archive, showing the original postwar drawings and illustrations of these two distinct neighborhoods.
 

The tour will be led by Sophie Juneau, Docomomo US/Florida board member and part-time lecturer at the University of Miami School of Architecture (UMSoA), and Chris D’Amico, co-founder of Overhead Studio and lecturer at UMSoA. 
 

Bus and Walking tour (bus picks up from the Mayfair House Hotel).
