Discover the modernist treasures of Claremont, CA where tree-lined streets and historic neighborhoods reveal stunning examples of mid-century modern design. On this guided bus tour of Claremont Modern, participants will view at least eight significant sites, including residential, institutional and commercial architecture by such luminaries as Richard Neutra, Millard Sheets, Theodore Criley, Jr., Fred McDowell, Edward Durrell Stone, Foster Rhodes Jackson, and A. Quincey Jones, alongside other noted designers who shaped postwar Southern California modernism. The intersection of art and architecture will be considered, through sites such as those designed by Millard Sheets that integrate art, as well as homes and studios of noted artists such as Karl Benjamin.
There will be time for lunch at a local hot spot, and a cocktail hour at the last location on the tour. Lunch and coach transportation included.
Two documentaries, one each direction, on Claremont Modern Art + Design will be shown en route. A Claremont Modern Map and Souvenir Catalog will be provided as part of the tour package.
